Psychology and Computers

Categorise

Some people see computers and psychology as two distinct fields with very little in common. The consensus is that computer science is a discipline that has strong research culture that is based on quantitative research while psychology is rooted in qualitative studies of human behavior and perception.

In reality, a lot of modern computer science is inspired by psychological factors. The design of technology interfaces – from car dashboards to airplane cockpits, from operating systems for computers to games controllers – is mostly developed by psychologists working closely with computer scientists. Also, a large portion of psychological research is statistically intensive and requires sophisticated software to process huge data sets.

Psychologists are increasingly utilizing technology to increase their www.rebootdata.net/what-are-virtual-data-room-costs-for-different-organizations reach. While the traditional techniques for testing of psychology – examining the behavior of a specific individual in a controlled setting or evaluating broader behavior patterns with self-report questionnaires and interviews – have inherent limitations (experiments are limited to one study; longitudinal studies are not common because of the difficulty of collecting and analyzing large quantities of data).

The use of computer technology has opened new avenues to understand individuals behavior. For example the brain-imaging method fMRI could not be achieved without computers. Researchers can connect specific brain regions to cognitive processes like memory or reading. EEG (electroencephalography) is another example of a technology that uses computer processing to record and analyze brain activity.

Furthermore that, the UK’s National Health Service now recognizes CCBT (computerized cognitive behavioral therapy) as a viable treatment for moderate to mild cases of depression and anxiety. Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to transform the practice of psychotherapy by replacing therapists with robots able to assess and treat patients online.
