GROUP CPT. Sam Ewang

Born on November 24, 1952, in his native Ibibio land in Akwa Ibom State, Group Captain Ewang’s search for knowledge and scholarship began at Qua Iboe Mission primary school, Ikot Nya, Akwa Ibom State. He later attended the Qua Iboe Mission Institute, Etinan where he completed his secondary education in 1970 and then, the Holy Family College, Abak, where he obtained his Higher School Certificate in 1972.

A man strongly imbued with a sense of direction and purposeful as well as unmistakable choice career, Group Captain Ewang promptly enlisted in the Nigerian Air Force in 1973. He was at the Nigerian Defence Academy and NAF Primary Flying school, Kaduna, between 1973 and 1975 after which he secured his commission.

He was at the Royal Air Force School of Fighter Control, West Drayton, England (1975 – 1976); and later the Royal Australian Air Force Central Flying School, East Sale, Melbourne, Australia (1977 – 1978). The Military Administrator studied Law at the University of London, London, between 1979 – 1981. Group Captain Ewang attended the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, Zaria, in 1986; the East African School of Aviation, Nairobi, Kenya, amongst others.

These include a Diploma in Air Defence (1975); License Diploma in Air Traffic Control (1981); Diploma in Airfield Defence and Facilities Management; and Diploma in Area Control (1986).

Group Captain Ewang also brought the academic and professional qualifications acquired over the years to bear on the growth and development of the Nigerian Air Force and the public at large.
