COL Oladayo Popoola

1985 - 1986

Lt Col. Popoola was born on 26 February 1944. He completed his secondary education in Ikire, Osun State. He joined the army and moved up steadily through the ranks, becoming deputy defense adviser at the Nigeria High Commission, India. Director at the Staff College, Jaji, and Chief of Administration and Chief of Logistics Army Headquarters. He was appointed Military Governor of Ogun State in August 1985 and served in this capacity until August 1986.

While in the Army, Col. Popoola studied Law at the University of Lagos obtaining LL.B degree, following which he attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. In March 1999, he was Chair of the Presidential Committee on Development Options for the Niger Delta, which recommended increased funds for infrastructural development and establishment of a Niger Delta Consultative Council.

Major-General (rtd) Oladayo Popoola has continued to be a role model to the Nigerian youths, his community and the Nation in his characteristic devotion to duty, commitment to service and humble disposition.
